From Our Website

Established by Managing Director, Sharon Sutton in 2000, Thornton is a firm of Chartered Financial Planners providing multi-jurisdictional financial planning and regulated investment advice to private individuals, trustees and business owners on the Isle of Man. As an island business, one that has enjoyed the many benefits of living and working here, we are committed to giving back to our community and managing our business responsibly. Within this website you can find out more about the clients we work with, the expertise within our team, what we charge for our services, our latest news and Island Influencer podcast episodes, and how to get in touch.

Since 2000, our team of Chartered Financial Planners and highly skilled support staff have been helping clients on the Isle of Man and in the UK to manage, protect and maximise their wealth with a range of specialist services which go beyond the traditional IFA advice, and become more of a life partner setting and achieving key financial goals and objectives.

We may no longer be fooled by emails from those claiming to be royalty or lottery winners with millions of dollars ready to transfer as soon as we send our bank details. Still, email scams are becoming more sophisticated, and it can be easy to get caught out. In just the last two weeks, I have received emails from Amazon, PayPal and TV Licensing looking for login or payment details. Of course, none of these was genuine. Some of these phishing emails are blatantly fake. They are often full of typos or sent from an unusual email address, not in keeping with the company name.

We enjoy being involved with the community by sponsoring or donating to a number of local events, for example the Yn Chruinnaght Celtic Gathering concert by Imar, Young Singer of Mann and Swim Safe run by the RNLI, as well as joining the NFU stand at the Southern and Royal Agricultural Shows. Founder Sharon and Director Jools both have achieved success in sporting fields on and for the Isle of Man, which underpins their commitment to supporting island sport now and into the future. Sharon is a keen cyclist and competed in the 2002 Commonwealth Games.

2 - Work out how much you will have coming in from various sources. Get your hands on the latest statements for the work and personal pensions you have. Also, get up to date figures for any investments, any projected rental income, bank accounts and national savings etc. They're likely to all form part of your retirement "pot". 3 - Consider whether part-time or voluntary work may form part of your plan. Some people welcome the routine, structure and purpose that this can give them in retirement.

Step 1 starts your client journey with a 30-minute Needs Analysis telephone or video call. We will determine what you're looking to achieve, get a high-level overview of your current position, and discuss how we can help you. We will expand on the information gathered during our initial call as well as the additional facts provided in advance of the meeting. Here we will finalise your lifestyle and financial objectives, present how we help you achieve them and will confirm the scope of our service and costs.

We are incredibly grateful to our clients who took part in the Personal Finance Society's Power Live project, sharing on camera their experiences of working with Thornton. In this short video, we hear from our life planning client Martin about the transformative power of Financial Planning. If you want a roadmap to follow as you journey through life, Financial Planning is likely to be the answer you need. The first thing he said when we met was "I want to find my way out of this". He'd enjoyed what he did and worked extremely hard but at the age of 53 felt that it had taken its toll.

All of our team are salaried, with no incentives for "selling" specific financial investments or products. This leaves us to focus solely on the most important thing of all which is managing your wealth and meeting your goals and aspirations. After an initial telephone conversation to judge if we can be of help, a first meeting will be at our expense. If you wish to instruct us to act, we will schedule further meetings to continue the financial planning process or to undertake whatever financial need you have currently.
